Vancouver Translation Services Contract Ticket

Hi Norman,

The  vancouver translation is now complete. I am attaching the file.

Here are some comments from the translator you can look at and tell me what you want me to do:

"- I chose not to translate the term "United Children's Fund", because I consider that it is like a society name, we shouldn't translate it. Everybody understands. In case, if you want to have it translated, I put it in bold style through the whole doc and I would translate it as "Fondation Unie pour les Enfants".

- There is a page on the UCF canada website, that doesn't appear on the file you sent to me. this is the volunteer opportunities page. Shall I translate it too ? (if yes, tell me quickly, I'll do it now).

- Some technical remarks :

* in the "highlights of 2007" paragraph (page 5), I added [l'UCF a] several times, because otherwise the sentance wouldn't have been correct.
* in the same paragraph (page 5), there is a sentance about tie-dyeing. I translated it as follows: "chinage par peinture", but in French you can also use "tie-dye", this is correct. (it is in bold in the file)
* On the Educational page (page 17), I added a few verbs that weren't in the English version, but I think they're needed in French, otherwise the sentance isn't easy to understand. (in bold)"

Thank you,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

The attached Word document contains all of the content for the UCF canada website.

I am curious about the banner though and was hoping Norman could provide some direction. I have found the logo file, but will need to know the  vancouver translation for UCF and United Children's Fund so I can create the new graphics.

Joe

Good Morning Bruno and Joe:

I hope you guys don't mind me writing one email addressed to both, but it
might help with communications.

I just received a call from our fund raisers and they have requested to
began French fund raising next week.

I know it might not be possible to have the French canada website up and going in
that short of time, but can we put up the link to the French version and
indicate it is under construction with a date posted of completion.

If we could get some pages, such as the home page and mission page up by
next week that would help.

What ever can be done will be much appreciated,

Regards,

Norman

Hello Joe, I'm sending an email from Bruno regarding the French language canada website, please take a look at it and the attachment and let him know if this will work. Last fall when I talked to Brent about the French site, he suggested we leave the default home page as the default page and insert a link at the beginning of the content section of it to view the site in French.  Then we would repeat the site with all the pages and links as they are now but in French.  This would include the link info at the top of each page, the links on the side panels and the info at the bottom of each page. All of the pages need the content to be in French, except the US dollar mail in donation form, and the US dollar on line donation will still be linked to the current link which is in English. The vehicle donation page should remain in English as well as the vehicle mail in form and the vehicle on line form since this only applies to the US.   The French Canadian on line donation page will be a link to Moneris French donation system.  I will have to get that link from them. The volunteer page should remain in English with a notation in the content section that anyone from any part of the world is invited to volunteer, but they must speak English because the areas we operate the volunteer program English is the official language.  When we repost the volunteer application form it will only be in English. The contact page should also be in French, and the privacy page should be in French. I hope this helps everyone and if you have any suggestions please let me know.Hi Norman, I'm attaching an image to display what I need. It's a screen capture of the web page. It would be nice to have this done for every page you need translated, that way it can be clear as to what needs to be done. If Joe is too busy to do it for you here are the instructions to do this: - Simultaneously press crtl and prtsc on your keyboard (with the canada website window maximized)- Open MS Paint (or your favorite image editor)- Paste the image- Use the pencil tool to circle elements you need translated- Save the file as .gif or jpeg I also need you to specify what elements need  vancouver translation. Common canada website elements are: - Content- Links- Graphic images- Dynamic Elements- Code I
Hello Bruno: We have most of the content changes made to the canada website and can begin on the French version. I'm out the rest of the afternoon, but will be in the office tomorrow, 604-609-6181, cell 720-839-3919. We need to review the site together to determine exactly which pages need to be on the French site.  We have a combined Canada and US site so some pages only pertain to the US. Plus the online donation function for Canada is handled by Moneris and we will need to connect the French on-line donation service to Moneris' French service. Thanks, This is the  vancouver translation of the extra pages, tried to get it done by Monday but the translator was busy during the weekend, I hope that's ok...sorry about that, it was a little short notice and she wasn't available.

The outstanding balance is as follows:

- First step of  vancouver translation: $86.68
- Volunteers page: $37.62
- Last of the links: $115.12

Total $239.42

I will forward you the itemized invoice in a few days for tax purposes.

If you could do the wire transfer that would be greatly appreciated, at least we know it works! I now already have a check that is "lost" in the system from another client, apparently mailed to the wrong floor or something...that's Citibank for you!

In case you need the info again, here it is (maybe confirm it matches what you used last time!): Hello, I don't know how things are coming along with the French  vancouver translation. I purchased a simply service, Power Translator 11 from LEC to use to translate emails and other items from French to English or English to French. I went on the site and translated the Mission and History page. Attached are the results, since I don't know French, I can't verify if this is a good  vancouver translation, but it only took a few seconds.  I'm afraid I can't find the "Terms And Conditions" link either...additionally, there are 4 donation page options. Some by mail, by US Dollars, Canadian Dollars and so on. I'm not sure what pages you need translated, what about the auto donation?  Could you please provide me with an MS Word document with all the text combined that needs to be translated and I will take care of it immediately. I'm sorry if this is inconvenient and to trouble you with all these questions, but the translator needs specific instructions word per word and page per page as to what needs to be translated or not. I need to know this in order not to charge you for  vancouver translations services that are not required.  Again, I apologize for this inconvenience...!   ;)Hi Norman, For the domain name do you want .com or .org? If you provide me a list of domain names I will check out availability for you at no charge. I have special software to do this, so the list can be as extensive as you want.  Then I will provide you with a list of available names and you can base your choice on that. Here is an article I wrote about choosing domain names, you can have a look at it for ideas: http://www.anonsolutions.com/Domain-Registration.html I'm working on the  vancouver translation but unfortunately the translator I wanted to use suddenly got busy...so there might be some slight delays, regardless I'll try 100% to have at least the home page translated by Monday and possibly the whole site.  Thank you,
 Hi Norman:
Calling into Quebec is on but we have a problem we should have foreseen, namely a French name for UCF. Some options are suggested below. I suggest using the first or second. You can register it when you have time but in the meantime it will make a big difference to calling results.
 Best regards,Len

Not having a “French” name is KILLING us.Can we use one of these to get by* Fonds de solidarite pour les enfants* Fonds d'aide aux enfants* Fonds d'entraide pour les enfants* Fonds unifie pour les enfantsI personnally prefer 1 and 3.Regards.Jean-Louis  I'm back in the office (US) one of our other directors is in the Vancouver office for a while. Can I mail a check for the balance?  If so give me mailing instructions.  I can wire if you prefer. We are currently advertising on Yahoo and have with Goggle in the past, but suspended the campaign until the  vancouver translation is complete.   The Yahoo program will need to be revised to include the french version of the canada website also. We probably could use some professional help with those, I have been doing it myself. What are your fee arrangements? Thanks for helping us, Regards, Norman In a message dated 4/27/2008 2:58:15 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it writes:Hi Norman, You are coming back from holliday today if I recall? I hope you had a good trip, I just came back from Cambodia myself yesterday! Is the  vancouver translation completed now or are there more things to translate? The total word count to French is now 5079 for a total of  $914.22 - $800 = $114.22 balance.  Will you need the meta description, content and keyword tags translated, please ask Joe about this. Are there any additional services you require? I also do Search Engine Optimization and Pay Per Click management with Ad words, MSN and Yahoo. You can also ask Joe about these services, I'm sure he's familiar with them. I can also do link popularity campaigns, press releases and article marketing as promotional strategies for the French (or both) versions of the canada website  I looked at the  vancouver translation and it's actually pretty bad...but that is to be expected from machine  vancouver translation. Language is just too complex to be handled by software, nothing can or ever will replace a human being in that field, no matter what the software provider will claim. Language is like music, not quantifiable and impossible to be evaluated and interpreted by machines! Here is a  vancouver translation back to English from French of the page I looked at: Source:   "Depuis 1994, le Fonds d'Enfants Unis a à condition le plus pauvre du monde avec nourriture, vêtir, matériel médical et ressources, occasions pédagogiques et loger. Nous fournissons le parrainage individuel et assistance à orphelin et autre nécessiteux enfants, construisez" Target:  "Since 1994, the funds of children's united at a condition of the most poor of the world with food, garments, medical material and recourses, pedagogical occurrences and logging. We furnish individual parenting and assistance to orphans and other need full orphans, build" Human  vancouver translation is costly, but unfortunately the only way to get things done right. Please let me know when you are ready to get the  vancouver translation done and I will take care of it, the  vancouver translation will be immaculate and to the highest standards Sorry to pester you on your vacation...didn't know you were stuck in traffic! The best way will be BMO account overnight for sure. I called Citibank and there is so much misleading information about the wire transfers in our peculiar situation that the check will be the best solution. Please make it to $730.08 for now and we can deal with the balance on the exact target word count when you come back to Canada. I will also talk to Joe about  vancouver translation of images and code but I will get working on the text file you provided me right away.  Thank you for your replies, much appreciated. I did receive multiple emails from you but they are however usually addressed to Joe or third party providers, so I'm not sure what I should do... I will wait for you to give me the final instructions as to what needs to be done exactly and then will execute the  vancouver translation as required. We will also need to discuss payment methods and terms once I give you a fixed quote per word based on word count.  I usually collect 50% up front and the balance at completion of the project. I can accept all major credit cards, payments by check to CityBank Canada, Scotia Bank, Canada Trust or Paypal electronically.  Here is a detailed reply to the email you sent me earlier  Since I'm in the US the wire transfer will need to go through Citibank in NYC. We will need their ABA code, swift code and NYC address, then to the Citibank in Toronto VIA their account in the NYC bank, then to the final account which is your account.    >> Please ask Citibank NYC about their ABA code, swift code and NYC address, but I don't think that you will need that information to wire me the money.  I assume the account number you gave me is your account number.  >> Yes indeed, this is my correct account number  Is the street address, your address or the banks address, we will need both?  >> This is the bank street address, I believe that you will not need my address to wire the money. I can overnight a check on our BMO account which you would have Monday.  >> That could work also, but would it be possible to make certified so that they don't freeze it for 5 business days(their policy)? The wire transfer might be the quickest and the best way I think, what is the deadline for completion of this project? The French version of the canada website should include all the pages of the canada website. The following pages should be in French. Home PageHistory and MissionMake a DonationCanadian on line donation (link)Canadian mail in donation formUganda AIDS ProjectOrphan ProgramsFood ProgramsEducational ProgramsVillage Development ProgramsContact UsPrivacy and Security The others pages should be included in the site, but remain in English. We will add a comment on the Volunteer Programs Page stating volunteers may have any language as their first language, but must speak English to participate and leave the page in English.  (When we post the volunteer application form sometime later this year, it will be in English only.) If  you have any questions or suggestions, let me know,Thank you for your enquiry. We can handle this  vancouver translation no problem, could you please tell me when do you need to have it done? I will then give you a rate per word.

Additionally, you said you needed help with the English version as well? Are you looking for a redesign of the site as well? Maybe some promotion or added functionality?
Just wondering if you are back from holiday yet? About the  vancouver translation project, if you need it done fairly soon please let me as soon as you can because I will need to mobilize the translator and availability on short notice can sometimes become a problem. Before you register it with the attorney, do you need the .com name, .org, .net? Let's make sure it's available first I think? Will you need a new version of the site in French or just a subdomain like french.unchildren.com ? Fondation and Foundation mean the same thing. Maybe you will need to register it with the French forms?I can see the canada website from over here just fine in both French and English, maybe  it's a change of DNS settings? That would make the site intermittently available depending on where you view the site from.  It might be an idea to install some code on the site to monitor your downtime...if your site is down you can be notified via email and contact the hosting company to resolve the issues ASAP. Do you have web statistics also? That will be important to quantify your organic results traffic for online promotional purposes. We can have this done for you at .18 cents CDN per word. The  vancouver translation will be of the outmost quality and executed by one of our professional certified translators. All  vancouver translations are done by hand, we don't use automated machine  vancouver translation software . We can have it fully translated for you before March 1st. We can also send you a small sample for evaluation purposes.
